Video Stream: Thyroid Dysfunction Wreaks Havoc On Health And Metabolism
The Thyroid is the control center for metabolism. Because the Thyroid Gland is responsible for allocating energy resources, its good function is critical to practically all organs and tissues of the human body. Unfortunately, Thyroid Problems are not uncommon among men and women and even impact the lives of children and adolescents.
Approximately 30 million people in the U.S. have clinically recognized Thyroid Issues and millions more struggle with Thyroid Imbalance without even knowing it. While females are more likely to struggle with Thyroid Issues than men, it's still a problem that can profoundly affect both sexes. Goiters, Grave's Disease, and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis are among a few issues directly related to Thyroid Dysfunction.
Where Is the Thyroid and What Does It Do?
The Thyroid is located behind and underneath the Adam's Apple. The organ wraps around the trachea, forming a butterfly-like shape. This Gland is the source of two critical hormones, T3 and T4. While the Thyroid releases these Hormones, their production is modulated by the Pituitary Gland, which is responsible for controlling Hormone Balance. The Thyroid is centrally important to metabolism, temperature, and blood pressure, among other things. The Pituitary acts on the Thyroid Gland via TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone).
If the Pituitary Gland is not properly signaling the Thyroid Gland, this disrupts the normal activity of the Thyroid, leading to either Hypothyroidism or Hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism is more common and is the result of suppressed Thyroid Function. Hyperthyroidism, on the other hand, is the result of a Thyroid sent into overdrive.
Common Signs of Thyroid Problems
- Inability to Stay Warm
- Muscle/Joint Pain
- Fatigue
- Menstrual Irregularity
- Trouble with Focus and Cognition
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Sudden, Unexpected Changes in Weight
- Sleeping Problems
As you can see, Thyroid Disorders share many common symptoms with other medical issues. The only way to pinpoint Thyroid Imbalance is to get a blood test that measures some combination of T3, T4, and TSH levels.
Because these symptoms are often vague, many people are reticent to reach out to a medical professional for treatment. Hormone Imbalance and Dysfunction are much more common than you realize, and a visit to an HRT Specialist could be life-changing.
Luckily, Thyroid Issues are easily treated once diagnosed. Bio-Identical Thyroid Hormone Treatments are available, which can restore balance to the organ and help you feel more like yourself.
Hypothyroidism, like many other hormonal issues such as HGH Deficiency and Low-T, become more likely as you get older. Unlike these conditions, Hypothyroidism is unresponsive to lifestyle changes like diet. In the case of Hypothyroidism, reaching out to a doctor for treatment is your best recourse for recovery.
