Bio-Identical Testosterone has become increasingly popular over the last twenty years, but the full range of Testosterone Risks and Benefits is still not entirely clear. In the last few years, many studies have been published that improve our knowledge of Low-T Treatment's pros and cons.
As we learn more about how the human body responds to Testosterone Therapy, medical professionals are more able to effectively wield the tool of Hormone Replacement. When prescribed by a licensed HRT Professional and used as directed, Testosterone Therapy has a strong safety profile. A recent study adds to the collection of data that provides evidence that men with Low-T can reduce the risk of dangerous cardiovascular events via Testosterone Creams, Patches, or Injections.
The European Association of Urology congress is a major scientific event that focuses on men's health, much of which revolves around the function of Testosterone. One of the presentations at this recent event discussed the results of a recent Low-T study conducted with volunteers from Qatar and Germany. They found that men taking Testosterone for Hypopituitarism were much less likely to experience stroke or heart attack than their untreated peers.
Monitoring The Effects of Testosterone Therapy on 412 Men Over Ten Years
This study was conducted over ten years and involved 800 participants. All men had been previously diagnosed with Low-T while also having major risk factors for stroke and heart attack, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, or a family history of the conditions. Furthermore, all patients selected for the study experienced symptomatic Testosterone Deficiency a long with clinically low levels of Testosterone. Symptoms accepted included weight gain, low libido, sexual dysfunction, depression, and low appetite.
Among the 800 men, around half ended up taking Bio-Identical Testosterone for Low-T. Researchers took advantage of this split in order to compare those that opted for Testosterone Therapy to those that did not seek out HRT Treatment. As a matter of course, all patients in both groups were advised to adopt habits that would improve their heart health. They were encouraged to stop smoking, control alcohol consumption, eat better, and exercise more.
412 total participants monitored in this study used Testosterone. Among those 412 patients, sixteen died, and no patients experienced stroke or a heart attack over the duration. The results for the other 393 guys were not nearly as rosy. Among the men that did not opt for Testosterone Therapy, 59 patients had a stroke, and 70 experienced a heart attack. Seventy-four patients died of any cause.
While the Low-T group was slightly younger than the control group (around five years), the health disparity persisted through statistical analysis. Based on this study, after controlling for other factors, Testosterone Therapy reduced the risk of stroke and heart attack by 15% for males over 60 and by 25% in patients younger than 55.
Testosterone Therapy Benefits Patients in Several Ways
As you can imagine, Bio-Identical Testosterone also led to several other benefits to patients. Men taking Testosterone in this study experienced several benefits on average, including:
- Healthier Blood Pressure
- More Easily Controlled Diabetes
- Better Cholesterol Balance
- Increased Lean Muscle
- Decreased Body Fat
- Stronger Livers
Men diagnosed with Testosterone Deficiency are at significantly increased risk of stroke or heart attack over a ten-year period. The men in this study that took Testosterone survived a decade without experiencing any of these adverse events. The results exceeded the expectations of researcher Omar Aboumarzouk. He believes that the results make it very clear that Testosterone Therapy can benefit the hearts and health of patients.
Testosterone Intended Only for Patients with Low-T
Omar is quick to point out, however, that Testosterone should never be used by men without Low-T. The body is designed to function at its best with Testosterone Levels in the healthy range. Too much Testosterone can lead to unwanted and potentially dangerous side effects. The cardiovascular system is also put at risk when Testosterone Levels are artificially increased above the normal range.
While lifestyle changes can provide health benefits to Low-T patients and reduce the risk of adverse health events, Testosterone acts as a force multiplier, enhancing the benefits of conscious health decisions.
Should Men At Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke Take Testosterone?
This is just one study among a growing chorus of increased advocacy for Testosterone Therapy. As strategies and protocols have advanced, the upside of Bio-Identical Testosterone becomes increasingly apparent. Omar believes that doctors should strongly consider recommending HRT Intervention for men at high risk of stroke and heart attack that also struggle with Low-T. Testosterone appears to be a powerful tool for healthier hearts among aging men.
While promising, it's important to recognize that further study is needed to determine the long-term health effects of therapeutic Testosterone. This study, fortunately, is still ongoing and will continue to track the outcomes of patients for many years. The participants in this study were not randomized, which weakens the strength of the results. Luckily, another study recently began, which is fully randomized. The goal is to follow the lives of 6000 men at risk of heart attack or stroke in order to produce powerful and conclusive results regarding the effectiveness of Testosterone for Heart Health.
